Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu

a complete self-defence system that incorporates distance, angling and timing within its style of body movement

This striking system includes all aspects of the body as being viable weapons when used correctly and naturally (Shizen Ken). This is not a 'sport' martial art; instead it is based upon Kobudo, which is the old style of combat martial arts that have survived thousands of years and have their origin on the battlefields of Feudal Japan.

ABOUT

History of Bujinkan

The Bujinkan was founded by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the current Grandmaster of the nine feudal-era schools that comprise the Art such as Togakure Ryu, Takagi Yoshin Ryu, Kukishin Ryu, Gyokko Ryu, Koto Ryu and more. These ryuha trace their roots back over 1,000 years to a remote mountainous region of Japan named Iga. The Bujinkan has now spread beyond Japan and has a large following all around the World.

Who is it for?

This martial art is ideal for adults as well as children, with elements of the above schools being taught, including rolling, break-falls, Kamae (postures), punching, kicking, and throwing. As the Bujinkan has its roots in Japan, we make extensive use of weapons, including the katana and wakazashi (long and short sword), long, medium and short wooden staff, rope and many others. These are all used with Taijutsu, or natural body movement, in mind.

Weather permitting, we also train outdoors. It is quite a different experience from training on mats in the Dojo. You will find it challenging training in an environment with tree roots, uneven ground and obstacles. Training out in the forest as the sun sets or late at night is an experience not to be missed.

All Classes are conducted in a safe, relaxed and fun atmosphere, to encourage students to explore the techniques learned.
