A Chara,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce your organisation to the services provided by the Irish Martial Arts Commission (IMAC).
IMAC is a Martial Arts umbrella representative body recognised by the Irish Sports Council and the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport as a National Governing Body of Sport (NGB).
IMAC currently represents 8 different Martial Arts systems, has 30 affiliated National Organisations, 380 affiliated Clubs and a participating membership of approximately 25,000.
One of our primary goals is to offer a Quality Mark for Martial Arts in Ireland. The membership criteria for Organisations and Instructors wishing to join IMAC are very stringent and require that every registered instructor complies with certain requirements. They must…..
- hold an appropriate and qualification in the Martial Art/s they are teaching recognised by the appropriate NGB/Advisory Board.
- hold a basic First Aid qualification.
- hold a Code of Ethics for Young People in Sport Certificate
- hold a IMAC National Vetting Certificate (sample enclosed)
- hold current Insurance cover for Martial Arts instruction.
- undertake to abide by all IMAC Policies & Protocols including:
- IMAC Young People’s Policy
- IMAC Anti-doping Policy
- IMAC Weapons Protocol
- IMAC Inclusion Policy
We are acutely aware of the fact that in Ireland there are no legal restrictions on individuals presenting themselves as Martial Arts instructors by buying or fabricating qualification certificates.
However, it is now a legal require to have Garda Vetting (now called National Vetting) through the National Vetting Bureau. As part of our membership requirements our members are Vetted as Martial Arts Coaches, their qualification history is verified, and certain qualifications (First Aid & Code of Ethics) have to be acquired during the first year of membership.
Furthermore, IMAC offers all affiliated Instructors the opportunity to qualify as a Coaching Ireland national accredited Level 1 Coach in Martial Arts - in addition to their current qualification in the Martial Arts discipline of their choice.
By 2014 it will be mandatory for all IMAC Instructors to hold an IMAC Level 1 Coaching award.
In the interest of quality instruction and the health and safety of your members, we would advise that your organisation only avails of the services of Martial Arts instructors registered with an Irish Sports Council recognised National Governing Body of Sport (IMAC, ITU or ONAKAI) .
IMAC offers a free verification service to organisations wishing to ascertain whether or not a Martial Arts instructor they are facilitating, or engaging, is a member of IMAC and if they currently comply with all of the requirements listed above.
IMAC can also direct you to Instructors in your area who do comply with the requirements listed above.
